The Alabama Foundation for Medical Excellence (AFME) is a public non-profit foundation created in 2003. Its mission is to promote quality healthcare by improving physician health and wellbeing and to facilitate sound health policy through physician education, research and other collaborative efforts.
Educational topics are derived from contemporary medical issues facing the practicing physician. Physician-patient communication, physician leadership and wellbeing, plus the challenges of overall healthcare provision and promotion are current topics of interest.
Programs are directed primarily at licensed physicians, but are also of interest to other health professionals. Educational activities include lectureships, didactive and interactive themed programs, group and individual participatory events.
